Bit of a shock hitting the Algarve as up until now haven't encountered masses of tourists and the houses and buildings in general have been uniformly white with red tiles.
Spent a couple of days in Albufeira and found that it's sort of divided into three major chunks. The old town - now full of shops, bars and shirtless sunburnt holidaying Europeans. The marina, new brash, colourful and full of shops, bars and shirtless sunburnt holidaying Europeans and the rest is where the locals lived.
For the kiwis out there - The Algarve is Portugal equivalent of Australia's Bondi Beach. But given that it's northern hemisphere the cafes have signs advertising "chip butties" and "full English breakfast".
Whilst there we did a boat trip out to see the Algarve coastline, Benagil sea caves (very cool and primary reason for coming here) and some dolphins.
Checked out the town (noisy bars, equally noisy restaurants with competing sound systems and tourist shops) and then spent the rest of the day by the pool.
Prices here weren't quite as bad as we had expected - about 20% more than anywhere else, beer was still really cheap and did see an all you can eat Argentinian BBQ for $50.
Trying to get photos of a dolphin whilst swimming and leaping when on a moving boat ain't easy. Of the 30 or so shots these were the best.
From here we head east to our last stop in Portugal, Tavira.
