Wanderings (Madrid ~ Spain)

30 September 2022

Having seen all the big sights and having a flight out of Madrid late in the evening we decided simply to have a bit of a wander through parts of Madrid we hadn't seen, go for a nice long late lunch and then head out to the airport.

Heading up Grand Via through the heart of the commercial district we spotted what for us has become for us the symbol of Madrid Cuisine the "Bocata de Calamares" aka the Squid Sandwich - sadly a delicacy we never got round to trying.

Spotted a very upmarket (but not as much as Porto's). cDonald's.

In the local Espana Plaza was a monument to spanish literature and was fronted by Don Quixote his companion Sancho and of course his horse Rociante (a name which should ring a bell for the SF geeks).

Selfie!

Seeing it was to be our last meal in Spain we decided to head for a non touristy area we had wandered through a couple of days ago. By chance we found Restaurant Anaur which was packed and had a short queue so decided to give it a shot. Lunch was three courses, from a set menu, with wine for 11.5 euros each. Really good meal and a constant of customers queuing over the hour we were there.

The wine was a chilled bottle of cheapy red but tasty all the same - the first bottle we have encountered in Portugal or Spain that wasn't sealed with a cork.

A really nice way to finish our time is Spain. From here it was a bit of a long metro ride out to the Airport to wait for our 11:30pm flight to Tunis.
